Sustainable Buildings
In May 2008, the Premier announced new benchmarks for energy and water use by Government agencies.
Among a range of measures was:

Requiring all Government owned or tenanted buildings to obtain 4.5 star environmental performance rating for both energy and water efficiency by 1 July 2011.

Requiring a 15% reduction in water consumption across all budget dependent agencies.
The Authority maintains a strong focus on addressing the environmental performance and sustainability of the property portfolio, including energy and water saving initiatives, and developing a progressive strategy to achieve NSW Government sustainability benchmarks. These include a 4.5 star environmental rating on Government buildings and a 15% reduction in water consumption.

A strategy for energy and water monitoring and for promoting energy and water efficiency initiatives throughout the property portfolio, including lighting and air conditioning upgrades

Delivery of sustainable forums to tenants on energy and water usage, water minimisation, recycling, climate change and transport

The rating of all the Authority’s owned office building using the NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating Scheme) Water and Energy rating system to measure performance

Incorporation of environmental performance criteria into service and supply contracts

The construction of new buildings, incorporating contemporary sustainable design practices to perform to a minimum 4.5 star NABERS.
The state-of-the-art NSW Government Service Centre, Queanbeyan and NSW Government Office - Penrith, developed by the Authority, have been designed to achieve 4.5 star NABERS energy ratings, incorporating the latest in energy and water savings features. The Justice Office Building, within the Parramatta Justice Precinct, also delivered by the Authority, is the first State Government Building in NSW to achieve a 4.5 Star NABERS base building rating and a 5 Star Green Star Certified Design Rating.
